Fix It, Tulsa: Free and Low-Cost Spay, Neuter, Vaccines and Microchips

The city's overpopulation initiative pairs local vets and nonprofits to offer low-to-no-cost surgeries and shots. Here's how to get on the list.

Recent from the Bugle

Tulsa's shelter is over capacity for one main reason: too many litters. Fix It, Tulsa is the city's answer, a partnership between Tulsa Animal Services, local veterinarians and community organizations to make spay and neuter surgery, vaccinations and microchipping affordable for everyone.

What it offers

  • Spay and neuter surgery at low or no cost
  • Vaccinations
  • Microchipping

Services run through partner clinics and pop-up community events. Recent free clinics have been held at Northpoint Shopping Center (microchips), Hardesty BMX National Headquarters (spay/neuter) and in select neighborhoods with the city's Planning Office.

How to sign up

Email spayandneuter@cityoftulsa.org with your name, contact information and details about your pet. It's a first-come, first-served notification list, and demand is high, so the city is upfront that services "will likely not be immediate." Upcoming clinics are announced on the city's social channels.

Why a vet is telling you to do this

"Beyond the shelter math, fixed dogs live longer. Spaying before the first heat drops mammary cancer risk dramatically, and neutered males don't get testicular cancer and roam far less, which is what gets dogs hit by cars. It's one of the highest-value things you can do for your dog."

The rules, briefly

Tulsa ordinance requires dogs and cats over six months to be spayed or neutered unless you hold a permit exemption (medical reason, registered breeder or rescuer). So this isn't just a good idea; it's the law, and the city would rather help you comply than write a ticket.

If you're a Tulsa vet or business

The Fix It Challenge invites clinics and organizations to contribute discounted surgeries, vouchers, community clinics or outreach. Partner inquiries go to sherricarrier@cityoftulsa.org.
